China—an old and historical country, now faces a very important period. That is 2008 Olympic Games. The Olympic Games would be held in China this year and till the time I wrote, there is only 21 days left. I won’t say Olympic now and other related topics like torch route or anything else. It is not the right time. What we are going to talk is the top 5 famous places of interest in Beijing.
As we know at this special time, there are surely many foreigners coming to Beijing. Maybe they would collect some information from Internet so I would like to give some systematic information like where you need to visit.
The first is Summer Palace. It is the largest and best-preserved imperial garden in China. In China it is called YiHeYuan, which means ‘Garden of Nurtured Harmony’ or ‘Garden for Maintaining Health and Harmony’. The Summer Palace is 15 kilometers from central Beijing and is situated in the western outskirts of Haidian District. In old times it was used as the summer residence for China’s emperor so it is very beautiful in summer and now it is the most beautiful season. If you are from other countries I suggest you visitting it first. The opening hour now is from 06:30 to 18:00 Beijing time.
The second is Tian’anmen Square. It is one of the largest squares in the world which could hold 500,000 people. The Monument to the People’s Heroes stands in the central to commemorate those died soldiers in the revolution. Each day there are many people all over the country coming to the square earlier to watch Flag-raising. Its neighbor is the third one—the Forbidden City.
The Forbidden City maybe is known to foreigners. I think nearly all foreigners should visit it. It is the Chinese imperial palace from the mid-Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. In common words it is the place where the imperial goes to sleep. There are many national treasures in it and even photograph is forbidden so it is the place everyone must go.
The fourth one is Temple of Heaven. The useful of it is worship to heaven and pray by Emperors. Its mainly structures are the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest the imperial Vault of Heaven the Echo Wall and the Circular Mound Altar.
The last one is the Great Wall which even could be seen from satellite. There is one vulgarism that sais One is not a true man unless he comes to the Great Wall. So it is also the place you need to go.
